Yes, you can.

We just love the positivity within barrister, Charlotte Davies’ post, so we had to share it!

“I read a post yesterday in which a young aspiring barrister explains that she was told by a law lecturer that, being female, she'd never succeed at the bar if she wants a family. Firstly 🤬🤬🤬. ...and then having got the anger out of my system...

😇 Yes you can. Not only can you succeed, you can absolutely thrive. You're self employed! You make it work for you. I know I bleat on a lot about having been a single parent at the bar, but this is why. Yes, it is hard, but so are a thousand other jobs when you've got children. A thousand other jobs whereby you won't earn enough to pay for childcare. A thousand other jobs whereby you are not in charge of your own time.

The bar is actually a GOOD CHOICE if you want a family 👨‍👧‍👦 Please please ask me or any other parent at the bar for their views and don't take the word of people who quite clearly have no idea and frankly appear to revel in telling others they will fail (it never ceases to amaze me how many of these you find in the education sector).

And read my interview for the #iamthebar Social Mobility project for the The Bar Council of England and Wales.”
